In its conclusions, it made several recommendations, all of which agree with the fundamental assumptions inherent in Flawless Execution. But one in particular speaks directly to effects-based thinking. The report instructs the reader to: "Course correct as needed. To understand how to implement effects-based thinking into our planning requires a deeper understanding of effects and how they propagate throughout complex systems. We also need processes to help us think more clearly in terms of effects. To that end, a subsequent series of articles will explore effects-based thinking and how it impacts strategic planning. Through that series we will explore a three-tiered model of effects-based thinking. However, few individuals or organizations utilize effects-based thinking systemically. Such an organized, process-oriented approach is what we mean by effects-based thinking. Organizations create plans that span the course of years. They call these plans "strategies." But leaders in organizations struggle to coordinate or orchestrate the execution of these strategies and utilize effects-based thinking. One of the many reasons for this is that the strategic planning is often not well connected to the operational plans, or what military planners call "tactical plans." The strategic plan often spans a period of years while the tactical plans may only span a period of days, weeks or a month. There is a missing strategic planning tier needed to bridge that gap - one that spans the multiple-month to multiple-year gap. Without effects-based thinking, the plans we carry out on a daily basis are hard to connect to the overall strategy that spans a year or more. In that case then, how do you measure your progress in support of the strategy? And, even more importantly in this rapidly changing complex world, how do we know our strategy is still a viable one? Complex phenomena obscure our ability to determine whether our chosen course is correct. So, what do we do? Do we just keep plugging along for months or even years until it becomes painfully obvious that our strategy is ineffective or needs adjustment, and then employ effects-based thinking?

Effects-based thinking is about realizing that the strategic planning-executing continuum must be continuously revised to keep pace with change. It can only do this by continually assessing the effects of actions taken and the uncontrollable changes taking place in the market or external environment.
As the name implies, effects-based thinking (EBT) is an approach to strategic planning and decision making where the effects of specific actions are assessed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not in a narrowly defined and time-limited way,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but through a perspective that is sensitive to broad-ranging and lasting impacts. Effects-based thinking is the opposite of short-sightedness or myopia.
To some extent we are all effects-based thinkers. If you ever said to yourself, "I'm not going to stay up to watch the rest of this game because I won't get enough sleep and I have a busy day tomorrow." Or, if you decided to enroll in graduate school to get an MBA so that you would have better career options, then you are certainly thinking about effects. In this sense,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], effects-based thinking is a fundamental human trait in our strategic planning processes. We envision some future or some goal, or we analyze some set of choices or actions and we think forward through a chain of cause and effect to make decisions. Thinking about effects is part of our nature as humans.

In our fast-paced personal and work lives we tend to think more about today's issues rather than tomorrow's. Strategic planning objectives get pushed back further and further to accommodate those immediate concerns. Modern organizations tend to exacerbate our naturally myopic tendencies by planning in small executive teams and passing down narrowly defined objectives and goals with little connectedness to overall goals. Ironically, narrow strategic planning sparks our natural capacity for effects-based thinking. In the wake of some failed corporate plan, the water cooler conversations buzz with effects-based criticisms like, "Didn't they realize that was going to happen?" or "I saw that coming a mile away."
To be more accurate, effects-based thinking can be defined as a continuum of strategic planning and assessing the effectiveness of actions directed to shape an organization's overall goals and objectives. In other words it's "how do we get what we want and how do we know we're making the right choices to get it". And that seems pretty simple and straightforward if it were not for this pesky problem within most organizations known as "execution".

14. Involve your children in the cooking and baking process. Focus on creating positive memories before, during, and after mealtime. I never tried to pursue the heart of love, because I and the general women have some degree of reserved emotions. Although I am no longer is the first awakening interest in the opposite sex, but still can be put into the heart of love lows, still fall in love easily.

21st Century Weight Release
With the holidays fast approaching I was very close to my 185 lb weight and I wanted to be able to celebrate the holidays with all the food and drink that I wanted. So on November 18th I went on the Release portion of my Weight Management Program and on Thanksgiving morning my weight was 177.2 lbs almost a 8 lb cushion so I was happy. I started with pound cake for breakfast and had a Traditional Thanksgiving meal for lunch and dinner with about 1.5 bottles of wine and a lot of dessert including 16 oz of Eggnog. On Friday morning I was up 7 lbs to 184.2. But I was not finished celebrating so I continued my celebratory eating for 3 more days with the Thanksgiving leftovers and also pizza and burgers topping out at 188.4 lbs. A little bit over my 185 lb limit but I knew that was just temporary and would be under 185 lbs in a day or two.

So now I am back at 177 lbs and will probably drop about 2 more by December 24th. I plan on celebrating Christmas and New Years with lots of food and drink without going over my 185 lb limit. Starting January 2nd I plan on going all the way down to 160 lbs (a new low for me) with a new high range of 177 lbs (a 17 lb cushion),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. For me releasing weight is easy and I specialize in helping people get to their ideal weight by teaching them how to release weight with a custom program that makes it easier and more likely for them to succeed.
The data is very interesting. On the 1st 4 days with out exercising I was down 7.2 lbs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Days 5-7 I was down 2,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].8 lbs totaling about 10 lbs in 7 days. This is what I had expected since I have done this before. What I didn’t expect it would take me 6 days to lose that last lb. On day 8 I went up almost 1 pound with no change on day 9. I did not change my eating routine those days so it was just water weight. Day 10 I went down 1.6 lbs then back up .8 lbs on day 11. That was good news because that shows .5 lbs of fat loss. On days 12 and 13 I lost an additional .5 lb which got me back to my weight before Thanksgiving,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. What the data shows is out of the 11 lbs I gained 9 - 10 lbs was water/food/waste weight and I added on 1 -2 lbs of fat.
So on Monday my goal was to get from 188.4 back to my original weight 177.2 ASAP to get ready for the Christmas holiday less then a month away. I thought I could do it in less than 10 days but it actually took me 13 days to get to 177 lbs. While releasing the weight I was never hungry or tired and this was the routine I followed. I ate between 1,000 – 1,500 calories everyday. I had over 100 ounces of liquid (water, coffee, diet soda) every day. I weighed myself 1st thing in the morning between 6:30am and 9am. The 1st 4 days I did zero exercise and days 5-13 I did light exercise (about 30 minutes of stretching and some push-ups). Below is the weight loss I achieved each day. I am also including my analysis and my actual tweets as I followed my Weight Release Program.
November and December are the worst months to diet because of all the holidays and holiday parties,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. So instead of fighting an uphill battle go with the flow and switch to a Weight Management Program instead of a diet and enjoy the holidays and all of your favorite foods and Do Not Feel Guilty. The key to weight management is all about preparation before and after the holidays. Normally you begin a Weight Management Program once you hit your target weight but it’s ok to make the exception during the holidays especially November and December. The best and the easiest Weight Management Program is from 21st Century Weight Release which is what I have followed for the last year keeping my weight between 165 lbs and 185 lbs which is considered to be a normal and healthy weight for me to be. If you have set yourself a goal and failed because you were paralysed by fear – don’t give up! That’s the very nature of goal setting. When you venture into new territory it’s inevitable you will come face to face with your own personal fears. Don’t let fear rob you of the opportunity to succeed and grow in life. I often tell my clients, if your not fearful, then your not moving forward.

2) Face the fear head on and get into action. When you face your fears head on and take the necessary action your confidence automatically soars. Choose something that you are currently fearful of and create a plan of action to over come it. Don’t expect too much too soon, just make sure you’re continually moving forward at your own pace.
3) Grow with the flow. When you feel an emotion that is uncomfortable many of us tend to push it away, often by distracting ourselves with food, TV, internet etc… or simply by swallowing the feeling and continuing to live our lives in the void of fear. When you find that nothing seems to ease the fear,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], instead of resisting your feelings, you must embrace them. It’s okay to be fearful, it’s a natural part of life,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it means you’re growing; it means that you’ve made a decision to move forward. Experience the fear and let it move through you body. Remember it’s never as bad as you think it’s going to be!

What is it your afraid of?
Everybody has fears,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], some small,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], some big. In this day and age we are so conditioned to fear everything, from a spider on the floor to the world at large. We fear change, we fear beginnings, we fear endings, we fear living and we even fear dying.
Here are my ‘three fear fighters’ to help you overcome your fears.
Fear can be all consuming, so immense and so paralysing that it keeps you stuck within your status quo for decades without ever moving forward. The more time that elapses the worse the fear appears to get. You end up living your life in limbo,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], feeling disappointed, prodded and let down by life. Living in the void of fear is a horrible place to live. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
I remember running my very first workshop and the fear I felt as I stood at the lectern with 25 eager facing waiting in anticipation of my first word. I could have fainted with the intensity of the fear. But do you know what, literally 10 minutes into my 3 hours workshop my body and mind relaxed into the flow and I no longer felt scared. I had to face my fear in order to over come it. Each time you face a fear your comfort zone expands and in turn,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so does your entire life.
1) Understand that fear is just an emotion. Feelings are all the same whether you’re happy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sad, angry or frightened. They are only emotions and not something that is coming from outside you. Feelings are derived from the thoughts we hold and the images that we play out in our mind, so in order to change our feelings it makes sense that we change the thoughts and images in our head. When you feel overwhelmed by fear, change the pictures in your mind or the thoughts in your head to something more positive, maybe close your eyes and see yourself confidently carrying out the very thing you’re fearful of. Change your thoughts and images and your feelings will magically change as a matter of course.
Is it making decisions, getting it wrong, finding a new job, losing your relationship, learning to drive,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], getting old, public speaking, swimming, being a bad parent.

To my surprise, I was able to eat the food that was available but I wasn’t as ravenously hungry as I used to be in the past. I realised that 5 months had been enough time for my body to adapt to its new status. If I would have a massive meal at lunch time, then I wouldn’t be hungry during the evening and I would just want a snack! And another thing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while in the past I had huge sugar cravings and swinging moods (I feel I was becoming diabetic!) I was now able to spend a few hours without eating and no food cravings would hit me! All I had to do is carry with me a small bottle of water and some nuts in my handbag when I could see that food time was a few hours away! Massive discovery!
The test came when I went to Europe for Christmas.
I went to the UK for one week to see my old friends, then I went to Spain for 4 weeks to see my family. I thought that I would fall into my old eating patterns. After all, it is almost impossible not to put weight on when you go to Spain, even if it is for one week! Normally I would put on about 5 pounds to half stone. Food is so great there and my mum is such a good cook!
Sometimes in life it happens that things are a bit of a struggle and you can accept this when there is a purpose behind it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. You know you are moving forward but perhaps the obstacles are teaching you necessary lessons.
I came back to South Africa with the same body weight that I left with… and I had managed to enjoy every big meal that had gone on! I couldn’t stop wondering what was going on.
Then it hit me: I believe that our physical body is an energy system made up of a mind,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], body, spiritual and emotional bodies (there are some other layers but I will focus on these main four ones). Whatever affects one of these bodies affects the others. There must be an alignment and balance of them in order to be in harmony so that the pendulum of the emotions doesn’t swing wildly from side to side.
The secret is to listen and follow the guidance you receive, no matter how crazy is sounds! (In fact, I will say that the more others consider it to be crazy, the more on target you are!).
I had battled to lose weight in the UK. Not that I was fat, but I felt sluggish. It is as if my energetic system wasn’t up to scratch. And it is not to do with the amount of food or the quantity of exercise I did, although, of course, that also counts. But what I mean is that it doesn’t come from willing specific amounts of calories down my throat or counting the minutes in the gym but it comes from aligning myself with some kind of inner guidance in order to reach a level of balance and harmony that allows me to experience inner peace.
It is a bit difficult to explain and I bet it is even more difficult to believe!
You must understand: this is not something I think. This is something that Spirit instructs me as my next stage of development. How do I know the difference, you may ask? The answer comes as a call from the heart. It is powerful and has the energy to carry you through any difficulties. It is not a mind-thing where you will reality to happen but it is a spiritual and energetic thing where it wills you to happen!

When you are thinking of conceiving a baby, I feel that the most important thing, beyond anything else, is a healthy body,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a peaceful heart, a balanced mind and a clean energy system. Very much like… clean fuel allows your car a much higher performance!
What will happen is that, without being hard on yourself, your body will find its natural balance and it will become a clean board for you to write whatever your focus on: a trip to a far away land, a new level of well-being,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a change in your life…
As I said, not so easy to explain and maybe quite difficult to believe!
We realised that all the attempts we made to start a new life (literally!) were not successful: we would try to buy a house and I would be made redundant; I would try to find a new job and would be dismissed at the… 4th interview!; I would have a go at my Coaching business and… somehow it seemed that people couldn’t see me!
It was July 2005. After a few years of living in the UK, we decided that it was time for a change.

Before I knew and without realising, not only I lost the 2 kilos I wanted to lose in order to feel good about myself, but I felt stronger and I lost a total of… 6 kilos in 3 months!
But this wasn’t a diet in the sense of the word: this was my body dictating to me what to eat, when to eat it and me not resisting its guidance. And because the focus wasn’t on the food but on my spiritual growth, my body and mind were ready to make this change since there was alignment of mind/body/spirit.
You see,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], as you shift your emotional blocks, your body naturally gets ready to hold more light and it raises your level of light – it is as if your energy becomes cleaner. Your body guides you to the foodstuff that matches its new vibration and so it feels that rather than making a sacrifice, you actually carry out the enjoyable practice of going with the flow of this new state of being!
But other times in life it happens that there is only struggle and no movement forward. And it is at these crossroads that I need to search deeply into my heart to find the answer. And the answer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], that October 2004, was to go. And we chose South Africa because my loved one is from Cape Town.
My partner got a job in Johannesburg for the first three months so I was at home by myself during that time. I took this opportunity to read great amount of spiritual literature, meditate on the information, dissect it, analyze it and transform it into understanding or wisdom that could be used in practical terms (this is my idea of spiritual growth!). Every week I could sense massive shifts in my perspective about life. Every week I could feel more strength inside me. There was motivation and energy to go and do yoga and long walks. There was motivation and energy to shift my eating patterns into eating clean food and particularly smoothies (fruits and yoghourt liquidified together). This doesn’t mean I wasn’t having my dutiful coffee and biscuits or chocolate in the afternoon! But of course, we are not talking about a whole box here…
This is what I call the Liberation Diet (which I will write about shortly!) – and which is nothing to do with a diet and all to do with learning to love and accept oneself! Funny, eh?
They say life starts at 40 and I was 40 at the time, so I made the point of totally starting my life from scratch. I would take my favourite clothing items and necessary gadgets with me, I would take all the many learning experiences I had gathered over the 17 years I spent in the UK,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I would create a new mindset in which gathering or storing light was be the prime objective.
And so we arrived and things were much harder than we envisaged due to family and work issues. But we soldiered on. And parallel to everything else,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I focused my mind on one thought: I needed to raise the vibration of my body if I wanted to conceive at the beginning of January 2006. This is one of the goals that I had in mind when I originally was called to move.

When you work with your emotional blocks, you actually liberate your physical body and mind: the energy hidden in an e-motion (energy in motion) can then be used to accept or allow more light. Among other things, alcohol disrupt the absorption of nutrients, create more work for your body (and liver!), and weaken your immune system. But alcohol also raises prolactin levels which can interfere with ovulation, disrupt women’s menstrual cycle and can lead to abnormalities in the endometrium. The Evidence: Much of DHEA's reputation as a wonder hormone comes from experiments in which mice or rats were fed daily doses. Such studies have shown that DHEA can prevent or delay the onset of cancer, "hardening" of the arteries,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], lethal viral infections, lowered immunity, obesity, and diabetes. But what works in rodents doesn't necessarily work in humans. That may be especially true in this case, because rats and mice produce only about 1/10,000 the DHEA we do.
In men, the increased levels of testosterone seen with daily DHEA pills could stimulate the growth of a tiny prostate tumor that would otherwise have remained dormant. Excess testosterone could also cause the prostate to enlarge, making urination difficult.
DHEAS is the sulfate ester of DHEA. This conversion is reversibly catalyzed by sulfotransferase enzyme primarily in the adrenals, the liver, and small intestine. In the blood,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], most DHEA is found as DHEAS with levels that are about 300 times higher than those of free DHEA. Orally ingested DHEA is converted to its sulfate when passing through intestines and liver. Whereas DHEA levels naturally reach their peak in the early morning hours, DHEAS levels show no diurnal variation. From a practical point of view, measurement of DHEAS is preferable to DHEA, as levels are more stable.
DHEA levels in the body begin to decrease after age 30, and are reported to be low in some people with anorexia, end-stage kidney disease, type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent diabetes), AIDS, adrenal insufficiency, and in the critically ill. DHEA levels may also be depleted by a number of drugs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including insulin,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], corticosteroids, opiates,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and danazol.
DHEA is used for weight loss, for decreasing the symptoms of menopause, and for boosting the immune system.
Experiments on a few dozen people over six months hardly constitute proof that a treatment works. "What we really need at this point are some long-term clinical trials to identify clear benefits and risks.
People with HIV sometimes use DHEA to ease depression and fatigue.

In fact, about the only thing that researchers can agree on is that DHEA is easily converted into other hormones, especially estrogen and testosterone.
There is sufficient evidence supporting the use of DHEA in the treatment of adrenal insufficiency, depression, induction of labor, and systemic lupus erythematosus.
DHEA is used for slowing or reversing aging, improving thinking skills in older people, and slowing the progress of Alzheimer’s disease.
Another study in which volunteers took DHEA suggests that this hormone may help treat the autoimmune disease lupus. Trials looking at DHEA's ability to boost the immune system and maintain mental function in older adults are in progress.
Like many dietary supplements, DHEA has some quality control problems. Some products labeled to contain DHEA have been found to contain no DHEA at all, while others contained more than the labeled amount.
Strict vegetarians have higher levels of DHEA in their blood than non-vegetarians. However, this difference seems to disappear after menopause. Researchers aren't sure how important these findings are.

Some people try DHEA to treat systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), weak bones (osteoporosis), multiple sclerosis (MS), low levels of steroid hormones (Addison’s disease), depression,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], schizophrenia, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), and to slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease. It is also used for preventing heart disease, breast cancer, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome.
DHEA is also used by men for erectile dysfunction (ED), and by healthy women and women who have low levels of certain hormones to improve well-being and sexuality.
DHEA replacement therapy has been studied extensively, and decreased DHEA levels have been implicated in heart disease, high cholesterol, depression, inflammation, immune disorders,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, HIV, and osteoporosis.
More than 150 hormones are made by the adrenal glands. However, the most abundant is DHEA. Humans are thought to make between 10 and 15 mg a day. These numbers are lower in women by about 10 to 20 %. After it is made by these glands it goes into the bloodstream and from then on it travels all over the body and goes into our cells where it is converted into male hormones, known as androgens, and female hormones, known as estrogens. Small amounts are also made in the brain by neurons (brain cells). Many doctors prescribe this hormone supplement to their patients in high dosages without realizing the risks and dangers it can cause.
Dehydroepiandrosterone, or DHEA, is a steroid hormone, a chemical cousin of testosterone and estrogen. It is made from cholesterol by the adrenal glands, which sit atop each kidney. For the first few years of life, the adrenals make very little DHEA. Around age six or seven, they begin churning it out. Production peaks in the mid-20, when DHEA is the most abundant hormone in circulation. From one's early 30 on, there's a steady decline in DHEA production, so the average 75-year-old has only 20% of the DHEA in circulation that he or she had 50 years earlier. At all ages,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], men tend to have higher DHEA levels than women.
Safety
The Food and Drug Administration isn't sure what to do with DHEA supplements. Ten years ago the agency told companies to stop selling DHEA, which was marketed at the time for weight loss, and classified it as an unapproved new drug, obtainable only by prescription. Then in 1994, DHEA was reclassified as a dietary supplement, allowing sales over the counter.
DHEA is produced naturally in the human body and has a safe history of use for the past 15 years. DHEA was administered at a dose of 200 mg/day for 24 weeks with only slight androgenic effects noted. Another study utilized a dose up to 400 mg/day for 8 weeks with few adverse events reported.A longer term study followed patients dosed with 50 mg of DHEA for 12 months with the number and severity of side effects reported to be small. Another study delivered a dose of 50 mg of DHEA for 10 months with no serious adverse events reported. A multitude of additional studies utilizing doses from 25 mg up to 2,250 mg per day for up to 24 months of therapy in men, women and even children have demonstrated that DHEA is well-tolerated and has numerous benefits[citation needed] with no serious adverse events reported.
As a hormone precursor, there has been a smattering of reports of side effects possibly caused by the hormone metabolites of DHEA.
It is not known whether DHEA is safe for long-term use. Some researchers believe DHEA supplements might actually raise the risk of breast cancer, prostate cancer, heart disease, diabetes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and stroke. DHEA may stimulate tumor growth in types of cancer that are sensitive to hormones, such as some types of breast, uterine,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and prostate cancer. DHEA may increase prostate swelling in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH, an enlarged prostate gland.
DHEA is a steroid hormone. High doses may cause aggressiveness, irritability, trouble sleeping, and the growth of body or facial hair on women. It also may stop menstruation and lower the levels of HDL, or "good," cholesterol, which could raise the risk of heart disease. Other reported side effects include acne, heart rhythm problems, liver problems, hair loss (from the scalp), and oily skin. It may also alter the body's regulation of blood sugar.
DHEA should not be used with tamoxifen, as it may promote tamoxifen resistance. Patients on hormone replacement therapy may have more estrogen-related side effects when taking DHEA. This supplement may also interfere with other medicines, and potential interactions between it and drugs and herbs should be considered. Always tell your doctor and pharmacist about any supplements and herbs you are taking.
DHEA is possibly unsafe for individuals experiencing the following conditions: pregnancy and breast-feeding, hormone sensitive conditions, liver problems, diabetes, depression or mood disorders, Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), or cholesterol problems. Individuals experiencing any of these conditions should consult with a doctor before taking.
The longest and perhaps most carefully conducted work in humans comes from Dr. Yen and his associates. In their latest study, published last year in a special issue of the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences devoted to DHEA and aging,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], eight men and eight women aged 50 to 65 took either 100 milligrams of DHEA or an identical placebo pill each night for three months. For three months after that, they took the opposite pill.
Possible benefits for DHEA: Scientists measured DHEA levels in blood samples taken from almost 2,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 men and women between 1972 and 1974 and looked at how many died from heart disease. In 1986, they reported that men with high DHEA levels were far less likely to have died of heart disease, while women with high DHEA levels were at greater risk. A more detailed analysis published late last year, however, showed that men with above-average DHEA levels back in the early 1970 were only 15% less likely to have died of heart disease, while there was no association between DHEA levels and heart disease in women.
Women who have passed menopause sometimes use DHEA inside the vagina for strengthening the walls of the vagina and for increasing bone mineral density.
DHEA is being investigated and may eventually be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a prescription drug for treating systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and improving bone mineral density in women with lupus who are taking steroid drugs for treatment. The FDA is still studying the pharmaceutical company’s application for approval. Doses of 25-50 mg daily are commonly used without side effects.
One reason why such trials are crucial is that DHEA has side effects, some of which may be irreversible. Since DHEA is converted into testosterone, some women who take it grow body or facial hair and, if they are under age 50 or so, can stop menstruating. DHEA has also been shown to decrease levels of HDL ("good") cholesterol in women, and could increase the risk of heart disease, the leading killer of older women. "We have no idea what DHEA might do to the risk of breast cancer.
By definition, hormones are chemical messengers made in a gland or tissue that start, stop, or otherwise orchestrate activity in some other issue. That makes DHEA a hormone in name only, since no one knows exactly what it does in the body. For years it was thought to be a kind of chemical trash left over from making other hormones. Today, "we still haven't been able to identify any mechanism of action.
Within two weeks of starting DHEA, circulating levels of the hormone were a bit higher than normally found in young adults. Lean body mass increased slightly in both sexes, as did muscle strength, which also improved with the placebo. Fat body mass decreased in men but increased a bit in women. There was also a rise in some chemical markers that suggested improvement in immune function, though the number of colds and other illnesses was not measured.
An earlier study from Dr. Yen's group showed that three months of daily 50-milligram doses of DHEA significantly improved the sense of "well-being," it did not improve sex drive, as advertisements for DHEA often claim..
Athletes and other people use DHEA to increase muscle mass, strength, and energy. But DHEA use is banned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

One thing we all share, is the most powerful tool in the world: The mind.
Live in your world - that means don't compare anything of your life to other people's. Learn what you can from others, but be grateful to be yourself. Stick to your plan daily & celebrate every little success. In time, you'll realize you're worth it. Then you'll look back & be glad you proceeded on that journey with all the ups and downs.
